What is PRF?
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) harnesses the power of your own body’s cells to rejuvenate and repair skin by gradually releasing growth factors that promote collagen stimulation and wound healing. It is used to address a number of aesthetic concerns, with many treatments focused on the undereye area. In liquid form, PRF injections can help improve skin quality, softening dark circles and smoothing fine lines. When used in gel form, it has these same benefits but also adds subtle volume to reduce tear trough (undereye) hollowing.

Why We Love It
The skin under the eye is particularly delicate, and with changes over time, it can make you look tired and worn down. While this is a common area of concern for patients, finding treatments that improve undereye appearance without making the area look puffy, lumpy or overdone can be challenging.
We love that PRF is an all-natural approach to facial rejuvenation with no additives or chemicals used in the process. It provides subtle, refreshing results that improve over time as your body puts the growth factors to work building collagen and driving cellular regeneration.

What to Expect
During your consultation, your provider will provide guidance on the number of recommended initial treatments based on your skin and goals, along with information about typical maintenance schedules. PRF requires multiple sessions for optimal results, so all patients new to PRF are required to start with a package of 3 treatments.
In preparation for PRF treatments, we ask that patients refrain from smoking or drinking alcohol, as this will yield a poor-quality blood sample. We also ask that they come in well hydrated, drinking plenty of water for 72 hours leading up to the appointment.
The day of your visit, your blood will be collected in the office and spun in a centrifuge. Your sample will then be injected into the treatment area as discussed previously with your provider. The procedure is very tolerable to most, but Pro-Nox (nitrous oxide inhaled to provide fast-acting pain/anxiety relief) is available should you experience unease or moderate discomfort during the injections.
After treatment, you may experience swelling or mild bruising in the injection area. The area may also feel firm for a few days. These are all normal aftereffects and will resolve.

FAQs
Who is a good candidate?
Anyone seeking to brighten the undereye area and improve skin quality and/or volume loss there is a candidate for PRF.
What should I do to prepare for treatment?
Stay hydrated for 72 hours leading up to your treatment. Refrain from smoking or drinking alcohol, as this will yield a poor-quality blood sample. Avoid blood thinning medications to decrease risk of bruising during injections. If blood thinners were prescribed or recommended by your physician, check with them before pausing use.
What should I do and expect post-treatment?
Keep the area of injections clean and makeup-free for 24 hours post-injection. Vigorous physical activity should be avoided immediately post-treatment. Swelling and mild tenderness can persist for several days post-treatment. The release of growth factors and collagen stimulation will occur over time, therefore, your results will not be immediately seen.
What is the downtime?
Downtime is minimal but common side effects following injections include tenderness, swelling, bleeding, bruising, itching, and/or scab formation.
Can I get it the same day as other treatments?
In most cases, PRF injections should be performed independently from other treatments. However, there are certain services where PRF can be added-on to maximize collagen stimulation and promote wound healing, such as microneedling.
How much do I need and how many treatments should I plan on?
For volume improvement and skin rejuvenation, approximately 3-4 treatments are recommended, however this will vary based on the patient’s individual anatomy and goals. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 9-12 months.
When will I see results?
Results will be seen as early as 6-8 weeks, with an average of 12 weeks. Final results tend to be visible around 6-12 months as treatments are performed in a series.
Can I get this treatment while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Yes! Because PRF is made from your body’s own stem cells — with no additives or chemicals during the extraction process — it is considered safe to perform while pregnant or breastfeeding.
